Applications Open for 2014 Marketing Fellowship

The Marketing Academy begins the search for 15 high-flying marketing leaders to join the second Marketing Fellowship – a unique programme of training and mentoring developed in partnership with McKinsey & Company, giving them the experience and exposure to become the CEOs of the future.

Applications are now open for the 2014 Marketing Fellowship Programme, a 12-month mentoring, coaching and learning programme, geared to developing today’s Chief Marketing Officers into tomorrow’s CEOs.  The programme is free of charge for Fellows, though it is highly selective and requires a time commitment of around 15 days over the year.

The programme is run by The Marketing Academy, a non-profit organisation geared towards developing leadership capabilities in talented individuals working in marketing, advertising and communications.   The Fellowship is aimed at high-flying marketing leaders (typically CMOs, SVPs, or Marketing Directors) with at least fifteen years’ leadership experience, who demonstrate clear ambition and the potential to take on the top job.

The educational content of the Fellowship is delivered by McKinsey & Company. These sessions include a three-day residential course plus Masterclasses, and cover all elements of Board stewardship, from corporate finance to governance, organisational design, industrial relations and supply chain.

Alongside the education programme is a mentoring scheme, affording Fellows the opportunity to spend extensive one-on-one coaching time with some of the biggest names in British business, including Sir Stuart Rose; Amanda Sourry, Unilever Chairman, UK; Chris Weston, CEO of British Gas and Ronan Dunne, CEO of O2.  Fellows also gain privileged access to an extended network of top business leaders spanning every board function.

Participants in the inaugural 2013 programme include: Abigail Comber, Head of Marketing British Airways, Peter Markey, CMO of The Post Office, and Philippa Snare, CMO of Microsoft. One of this year’s Fellows, Jeff Dodds, former CMO of Virgin Media, was appointed CEO of broadband provider Tele2 mid-way through the programme.

Jeff says, “The Marketing Fellowship provides a unique mix of theory, practice and coaching.  The educational content is second to none, and having the opportunity to talk in confidence to very senior and experienced business leaders was also invaluable. There’s no doubt that the Fellowship has helped prepare me for new role as CEO of a high-growth business.”

The Marketing Academy’s Founder Sherilyn Shackell adds, “The Marketing Fellowship provides a fantastic opportunity for the leading CMOs in the country to go one step further and train to reach the highest levels.  We’ve had extremely positive feedback from last year’s Fellows about their experiences. It is fantastically rewarding to see them starting to use the training to progress their own careers. We’re looking forward to welcoming the next cohort of talented senior marketers onto the programme in November.”

The 2014-15 Marketing Fellowship commences in November 2014 and runs for 12 months. Individuals can apply directly via the website www.themarketingacademy.org.uk. The deadline for applications is 8th August 2014.
