Viv Gibson Thomas, Head of Strategy – The Contenders

With a love of creativity and business thinking, Viv unites the two as Head of Strategy at The Contenders, a brand consultancy based in Melbourne, Australia. Viv is responsible for their largest pieces of business working at an executive and board level with clients including ANZ, Australian Federal Government, MacKillop Family Services and Creative Victoria.

Before leading a team of strategists at The Contenders, Viv graduated with an MBA at Melbourne Business School. By deep diving into all functions of the business world, she complemented her creative problem solving skills with high level analytical and strategic expertise. As a result, Viv can speak both business and brand, and believes positive impact is limitless when both are working in harmony.

With 18 years experience in branding and communications, Viv spent the first half of her career as a creative at advertising agencies in Australia and New York, working at large multinationals such as Publics in Manhattan and independent shops including AJF Partnership. 10 years of copywriting experience and countless campaigns later, Viv has worked on brands from every sector of society and picked up multiple industry awards along the way.

Viv guest lectures, appears on industry panels and fosters young talent in all things branding. Viv is motivated to increase the client appetite for creative bravery through simple and effective brand strategies, and is excited about the future marketing landscape of Australia.
