News from the UK – Applications Open for Marketing Academy Fellowship – 4th Year of prestigious Programme for CMOs

The Marketing Academy begins the search for marketing leaders to join the fourth Marketing Academy Fellowship – a unique programme of mentoring developed in partnership with McKinsey & Company designed to enable CMOs to become CEOs of the future.

Applications are open for The Marketing Fellowship Programme, now a 9 month board level accelerator programme, geared to developing today’s Chief Marketing Officers into tomorrow’s CEOs.  The programme is free of charge for Fellows, though it is highly selective and requires a time commitment of around 12 days during 2017.

Sponsored by ISBA, Adobe and British Airways, the programme is run by The Marketing Academy, a highly respected non-profit organisation which develops leadership capabilities in talented individuals working in marketing, media, advertising and communications.   The Fellowship is designed for CMOs in the UK & Europe who demonstrate clear ambition and the potential to become a CEO or take on wider board roles.

The curriculum of the Fellowship is delivered by McKinsey & Company and the fourth cohort will attend two four day ‘residential events’ in Europe with masterclasses covering all elements of Board stewardship, from corporate finance to governance, organisational design, operational effectiveness and supply chain.

Alongside the education programme is a mentoring scheme, affording Fellows the opportunity to spend extensive one-on-one time with some of the biggest names in business. Fellows also gain privileged access to an extended network of top business leaders spanning every board function and are assigned an executive coach for the duration of the programme.

There are 50 Alumni of this much coveted programme including: Lysa Hardy, CMO of NBTY Europe Ltd, Craig Inglis, Marketing Director at John Lewis Plc; Sarah Warby, Marketing Director of Sainsbury’s; Peter Corijn, Global CMO at Imperial Tobacco; Keith Moor, CMO of Santander; April Adams-Redmond, CMO of Kerry Foods; Mark Evans Group Marketing Director of Direct Line Group;  Guillaume Boutin, CMO of Canal +; Steven Overman, Global CMO of Kodak; Carol Welch, Global Brand & Innovation Director of Whitebread, Costa Coffee; Robbert Bakker, CMO of Aegon Plc .

April Adams-Redmond, Chief Marketing Officer of Kerry Foods, says: “The Marketing Academy Fellowship has been a life-changing experience.  The programme gives CMOs the ammunition required to become CEOs and so much more.  Fellows get access to the world’s best thought leaders on a whole range of C-suite topics from leadership to finance, as well as one-to-one mentorship from experienced CEOs who have experienced everything before.   If you’re lucky enough to get into the Fellowship it’ll put your career on a course beyond all your imagined limits.  It is, by far, the best programme for Senior Marketing Leaders out there, hands down!”

Anthony Ainsworth, SVP Head of Global Marketing of Eon remarks “It’s a real privilege to be on the Fellowship programme; you get to develop, learn from and laugh with an amazing peer group network.  The reach of the Fellowship programme is fantastic – it’s been truly insightful to be mentored by great CEOs, Chairmen and industry leaders.  One of the key aspects for me is to get real first-hand perspectives on what it takes to be an effective CEO.”

The Marketing Academy’s Founder Sherilyn Shackell adds, ‘We firmly believe that CMO’s are the by far the best candidates to lead businesses but there is still distance between the leader of the marketing function and the CEO role.  The Marketing Academy Fellowship Programme provides an unprecedented opportunity for leading CMOs to bridge the knowledge and skills gap to reach the highest levels of business serving on company boards’.

The Marketing Fellowship commences in January 2017 and runs for 9 months. Individuals can apply directly via the website www.themarketingacademy.org.uk
