News from the UK – The Marketing Academy Newsletter December 2016

We usually give it a few months in between newsletters, but since the end of October, when we last wrote, it’s been all-go at The Marketing Academy… what a lot we have to share!

New faces at The Marketing Academy!

We were more than a little excited to share the news of four new team members joining us earlier this month, to help continue to build what we’ve done to-date. These four new superstars are all moving into new roles for us:

Oli Barrett is joining as our International Development Director, to help support, promote & develop TMA’s activities around the world including new programmes planned in the USA, Middle East  and Asia.

Leonie Paris will be our new Head of Events & Community and will manage learning events across all the Academy’s programmes, lectures, boot camps and masterclasses, supporting speakers and mentors.

Daryl Fielding will be leading the new Marketing Academy Foundation which will deliver our Apprenticeship Programme from 2017, building a platform to provide young people with access to a career in marketing, media or advertising.

And Kathryn Marriott will be Chair of the newly-formed Alumni Council who will be overseeing a new programme of activities designed for the 238 alumni of the Scholarship programme, also launching in 2017!

All four bring a wealth of experience and share our passion for developing talent within the industry. Their contribution will transform our ability to develop our existing programmes and enable the growth of The Marketing Academy globally. You can find out a bit more here.
UK Scholarship nominations are still OPEN

Just as this year’s Scholarship enters its final few months we are beginning to look for our next cohort. We announced early this year that we were changing up how the Scholarship would run in the UK, focussing the learning over 9 months (from May 2017 to January 2018) and covering the 4 P’s; core modules through which we empower our Scholars to be the best they can be.

So now the hunt is well and truly on, and nominations are already flying in. To help promote the Scholarship to everyone we can, we even enlisted the help of a few friends to get some adverts out at London’s most iconic advertising spot – how exciting!

But you haven’t missed the opportunity to nominate – or be nominated – for the 2017 programme. You can download a full guide to the Scholarship curriculum, selection criteria and process here and nominate here.

Get ready for Inspire!

Our Inspire Learning Series has gone from strength to strength in 2016, continuing to open up the Marketing Academy to more and more people whilst raising money for the Apprentice Programme Fund along the way.

Inspire’s mix of coaching breakfasts and leadership lectures have been brilliant throughout 2016, and culminated in Thomas Barta’s 12 Powers of a Marketing Leader in November, and then a couple of weeks ago with Mark Ritson’s Review of the Marketing Year. After his lecture, Mark then rushed to Heathrow to board a plane so he could share the same lecture with the Marketing Academy Australia at Sydney Opera House!

But if you missed Inspire in 2016, don’t worry! We are running bigger and better events in 2017 which you can find out all about here. The one you need to put in your calendar though is their Inspire Live conference on 6th April 2017 where you can learn about “The 10 Superpowers Every Leader Needs”. Early Bird tickets are available.

Partner’s Bootcamp

On 30th November we hosted our first ever Partner’s Bootcamp, hosted at the fabulous News UK offices.Throughout the day we focussed on our 4 P’s—Personal, Professional, People and Purpose—with thought-provoking discussion on how to be an extraordinary human being, an exceptional marketer, an inspirational leader & a change maker. Thank you again to our incredible partners who make The Marketing Academy possible with their amazing support. You can have a browse of the highlights here, and for more information about our partners head to the website!

Marketing Academy: Worldwide

Another fabulous Australia programme came to a close with a Showcase Lecture in Sydney in October. The graduation of the Class of 2016 was topped off with this wonderful video review of their year.

Nominations for the Australia 2017 Scholarship are now closed and so the process begins of finding our next cohort of emerging leaders Down Under for our 3rd year!

And Stateside, we are still on the lookout for partners and mentors ahead of our launch in New York later next year. If you are interested please contact Sherilyn@themarketingacademy.org.uk
