The Marketing Academy scholarship year for me has been about seizing the moments, so in continuing with the theme – here goes with my first blog.

During my time with the Marketing Academy I have had the privilege of meeting some incredibly inspiring leaders, all with very varied backgrounds, yet universally successful within the very wide profession that is Marketing. Below are some of my favourite nuggets of advice from having met and listened to them:

Russ Lidstone, CEO Havas Worldwide London:

In a crisis, walk slower.

Kevin Murray, Chairman The Good Relations Group:

I won’t care how much you know until I know how much you care.

Syl Saller, CMO Diageo:

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Andy Duncan, CEO Camelot:

Create an environment that embraces debate and discussion. As you get more senior the danger is they may implement your poor ideas!

I also loved: Listen generously.

Julian Ingram, EVP Global Business Leader McCanns Worldgroup:

Look for the order out of chaos and its unintended consequences.

Robert Senior, CEO Saatchi & Saatchi:

Plans are useless, planning is everything.

I also loved: F**k incrementalism!

Debbie Klein, CEO Engine:

Cool head, firm hand, warm heart

Rufus Radcliffe, Group Marketing & Research Director ITV:

Never let a good crisis go to waste

Robin Wight, Chairman of Engine Group:

Find time to go off piste and expand your horizons, your brain will never tire itself out

Simon Bitcliffe, CEO Webmart:

If you don’t like where you are – change it. You are not a tree.

From eatbigfish:

Embrace Intelligent Naivety

As my scholarship year is coming to a close I’ve had a chance to reflect on the amazing people I’ve met, not least my fellow scholars, now friends. I’ve been inspired at every turn and have laughed much along the way. It’s an incredible year amongst the kingpins of the global marketing industry, being inspired and challenged to embrace opportunity in all its guises, and to become the leaders of tomorrow. I will be eternally grateful to The Marketing Academy and if you’re lucky enough to be nominated, this will be the biggest and most generous no brainer of your career.

All ‘nominees’ then receive an ‘Invitation to Apply’ which includes essential information about the process.
