David Halter, Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, Dentsu Australia & New Zealand

David is Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, Dentsu Australia and New Zealand.

A dad to three young boys (Jude 10, Alec 8 and Liam 5), David started in advertising 15 years ago when things were much quieter.

An AFA Graduate, ad-life commenced in Account Management at indie agency Loud, gaining invaluable experience on the long-standing Billy Connoly campaign for ING Bank.

An Employee of the Year Award saw David take a trip to TEDGlobal at Oxford University in 2009, where he met Ogilvy’s VP Rory Sutherland. Six months later, David moved to London to work at Ogilvy on British Airways, American Express, Dove and Kronenberg.

Returning to Australia in 2012, David joined Clemenger Group. The first four years at BBDO as Strategy Director working on the likes of Virgin Australia, Foxtel, Mars and Tourism Australia. The last six as National Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Director of CHE Proximity’s Sydney Office. At CHEP, David was a core part of the team which grew the agency from six people on day 1, to over 170. Samsung, Danone, Tourism Australia, Velocity Frequent Flyer, Fly Buys, IKEA and 7-Eleven were some of the brands on the list.

In 2022, David joined dentsu ANZ. He is responsible for the development and execution of the group’s strategic product. This includes a new integrated growth planning model that combines dentsu’s consulting-level thinking, with agency-style execution, and dentsu’s overall go to market approach across creative, media and CXM.

David is also an Award school graduate, Marketing Academy Alumni, and a board member on the non-for-profit Curing Homesickness. He has qualifications from Melbourne Business School and Macquarie University, lives by the beach, plays piano, and is coach of his son’s cricket team. They currently only have 4 wins from 10 games, so plenty of work to do!
