Desmond Campbell is a proud Alawa and Gurindji man from the Northern Territory and the Chief Executive Officer of Welcome to Country, a First Nations-led not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander economic self-determination. As CEO, he leads the organisation’s national strategy, overseeing growth across Indigenous products, services and cultural experiences, while strengthening governance, financial sustainability and community impact. Under his leadership, Welcome to Country supports more than 200 First Nations businesses across Australia, creating pathways to market access, employment and long-term economic participation grounded in cultural integrity. Prior to his current role, Desmond built a career spanning senior leadership, strategy and transformation across the not-for-profit, education and community sectors. He has worked extensively with Boards, government, corporate partners and community leaders to deliver complex initiatives that balance commercial discipline with social purpose. His leadership approach is shaped by collaboration, accountability and a strong commitment to First Nations self-determination. Desmond brings a distinctive perspective to marketing and leadership, viewing brand, storytelling and customer experience as tools for empowerment rather than extraction. He is particularly focused on how ethical marketing can unlock sustainable growth while protecting culture, Country and community interests.
