James Bartold, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Bastion Experience

As the Head of Sponsorship, Events and Commercial Strategy for North MELBOURNE Football Club, James is accountable for sponsorships, partnerships, events and the wider commercial strategy at the Club.

His current responsibilities include managing a high-performing team that delivers strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of all sponsorship marketing strategy as well as identifying new long-term partnership growth opportunities. He is also in charge of delivering high-quality events that drive commercial and consumer growth and the Club’s strategic commercial projects. Recent achievements include development and management of key partners including Mazda, Spirit of Tasmania, AIA, PUMA, CUB, McDonald’s, Saputo Inc, Ego Pharmaceuticals, amongst others.

Prior to his role at North Melbourne Football Club, James spent 4 years working as a management consultant predominantly in healthcare throughout the Northern Territory. He led several large change management programs focused on delivering better health outcomes to local communities.

James is a collaborative and engaging business leader, driven to exceed expectations and deliver outstanding results for his organisation and the partners he works closely with.

James is a passionate musician playing national and international tours with his band Bad//Dreems. When he’s not on stage, he’s spending time with his family and friends, and chasing around his young son Louie.

NOMINATIONS FOR 2026 ARE OPEN!

The program is free but highly selective so firstly we ask senior business leaders working within Marketing, Media and Advertising to nominate the best of their emerging leaders for a place on the program. All ‘nominees’ then receive an ‘Invitation to Apply’ which includes essential information about the process.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE GLOBAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2026 ARE OPEN

Applicants may apply to EITHER cohort regardless of country of residence, but must commit to attend both Residential dates & the Virtual day of their chosen cohort. Attendance is mandatory and a condition of acceptance onto the program.
