Mary Lou Ryan, Co-Founder, Director of Sustainability and S. Chain, Bassike

Bassike began on Sydney’s northern beaches in 2006 with a clear vision to create adaptable and covetable everyday pieces; combining timeless style with premium quality and sustainable fabrics. Bassike was established the with an original range of organic cotton t-shirts; the focus soon expanded to include denim – building a range of handcrafted jeans using premium Japanese fabric with an emphasis on traditional engineering. Furthermore, the labels growth continued to include men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections. Today we produce both our jersey and mainline locally in Australia, supporting the local industry while producing quality product. The beauty of Bassike is its appeal to men and women whose easy-going style still requires an element of subtle luxury. Bassike’s very specific aesthetic is influenced by the contrasts of loose Australian beach style and the integrity and simplicity of Japanese design. Bassike now has nine stand-alone stores and is available in more than 90 premium stores around the world.
