Richard is a Chair and Non-Executive Director with over 35 years in financial services, focused on commercial performance , risk management and digital transformation. He is Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Risk Committee at Funding Circle (FTSE 250) , and NED and Chair of the Pension Dashboard Portfolio Board for the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) and NED for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). He is also on Audit and Risk, Finance, Remuneration and Nomination committees across these board roles.
Previously, he was Global Head of Retail Banking Products and Global Head of Cards and Lending at HSBC, with global P&L responsibility. Prior to that he was CEO of GE Money UK (Unsecured) and Managing Director of Barclaycard Europe, with earlier senior roles in the Barclays Group ( including Retail Marketing Director for Barclays).
In those roles he developed and led global digital payments and lending platforms and programmes, overseeing significant technology investment, customer growth and performance across multiple markets and built and scaled analytics and risk decisioning capabilities, including AI-enabled underwriting. He is currently an adviser on retail banking and cards to systemically important UK and European banks and has undertaken independent advisory work for government and regulatory stakeholders, including operational readiness and system reviews at senior levels, reporting at Permanent Secretary level. His work now focuses on improving business performance, governance, risk and ensuring complex systems can perform at scale and deliver sustainable commercial outcomes
