Salvatore, or Sal for short is the Senior Manager of Marketing, Retail US at Wella (a KKR Company) in charge of the company’s largest US retail brand in the portfolio, Clairol. He is leading the turnaround of the 90-year-old brand which has started to see share growth in the latest months after consistent declines over the last 10 years.
Before coming to Clairol, Sal was a Brand Manager at Danone North America leading innovation on Two Good. During his tenure on the brand, Two Good became America’s fastest growing yogurt brand, in part by his proudest career achievement to date, Good Save. Good Save is a yogurt made with ‘verified rescued fruit’ in partnership with Full Harvest, a food-rescue start-up. Good Save won the 2021 BIG Innovation Award by Business Intelligence Group, was named the Best New Product of 2020 by DairyFoods.com, and was a Finalist in the World Food Innovation Award presented by FoodBev Media. Good Save now ‘saves’ over 100,000 lbs. of otherwise wasted fruit from American farms each year.
Sal studied Accounting at Quinnipiac University and started his career at Deloitte. After his tenure at Deloitte, he did financial accounting at Interactive Brokers Group, and soon after joined the Danone North America Finance Department as a Marketing Financial Analyst. Taking both a title and pay cut, Sal saw the chance to support the Marketing team as an opportunity to someday become a Marketer himself. In 2017 he was given the opportunity to do just that, becoming an Associate Brand Manager on the Activia Probiotic Health business; where he supported the turnaround of the $500M brand, returning it back to growth for the first time in years.
Sal has a passion for turning around brands, and truly believes that business can be a powerful force for good. On the weekend he stays up too late playing video games, gets up too early to watch Formula 1, and loves to adventure around his home of New York City.
