Sion Owen, Head of Marketing, BT

Sion is a Head of Marketing at BT, currently focused on its international business, which provides networking, security, and cloud services. He leads a global team of 30+ with a remit covering planning and operations as well as partner marketing.

He has held two previous roles at BT. Most recently he was Head of Commercial Strategy and Propositions in BT’s Ventures business, establishing a new team and driving sell-side growth from BT’s advertising and media assets. Before this he led content marketing and social media for BT’s Consumer unit.

Sion’s formative marketing years were in the agency world at Good Relations – a communications and content agency which is now part of VCCP. He worked for some of the UK’s biggest brands, gaining broad sector and channel experience, helping win new business, and racking up multiple award wins.

He joined Good Relations following a year working for an MP, which gave him his first experiences of running communications and cemented his interest in current affairs.

As a leader, Sion has a track record in developing his team’s careers, enabling their growth and progression. He leads teams with an emphasis on consistency, transparency, and accountability. This creates a culture where people feel they can speak up, express different perspectives, while knowing that their managers care about them.

Sion brings to marketing a commercial focus and an ability to see the big picture, coupled with strong experience in digital and data. He’s known for having a can-do attitude, being extremely reliable, and highly motivated.

Outside of work Sion is a keen cyclist and theatre-goer, often seen lycra-clad in south west London or (not lycra-clad) attending productions in London’s theatres.
