Sophie Hirst, Founder of WorkBaby

Sophie leads Brand & Reputation Marketing for Google in Australia, helping to shape the brand’s reputation locally, across audiences including key opinion formers, the media industry and the general public. Sophie leads a team responsible for some of Google’s highest-priority marketing campaigns and initiatives; charged with demonstrating the impact of Google’s economic, cultural and social commitments to Australians, as well as brand communications from Doodles to social to crisis response.

With 11 years at Google in the can, Sophie’s marketing knowledge is well rounded, having held roles across core product areas; from Small Business to Ads Marketing, Consumer and now Brand. She has worked at Google in New York where she was a founding member of a startup-like internal group that launched Primer — an industry awarded tool to help small businesses and startups learn marketing. With her early career founded in music (Myspace) and youth culture (Nylon Magazine), Sophie is an avid supporter of the Australian music industry and led a campaign, in partnership with Universal Music, that garnered 25 industry awards including 2 Gold Lions and a Yellow D&AD Pencil. She’s been a member of the ARIA Voting Academy for 12 years and has worked with scores of world renowned artists and YouTube stars from Tame Impala to Troye Sivan.

With two young daughters under the age of 4, Sophie’s current crusade is to expand her household listening habits beyond the Bluey soundtrack. She’s currently failing, but it could be worse.
