Teymur Valiyev is a senior executive in the energy sector with over 15 years of experience in strategic management, large-scale transformation, and commercial operations across Azerbaijan and Georgia. Since October 2024, he has been serving as Chief Commercial Officer at SOCAR Azerigaz, the state natural gas distribution and supply company of Azerbaijan. In this role, he oversees commercial strategy, revenue management, customer operations, and business process optimization, while driving modernization and digital transformation initiatives across the organization.
Prior to this appointment, he served as Advisor to the Director General at SOCAR Azerigaz PU, contributing to the development and execution of the company’s Strategic Plan and the design of a new operating model. From 2014 to 2024, Teymur held senior leadership positions at SOCAR Georgia Gas, including Head of Strategy & Innovations and Head of Digital & Business Innovations. He led the development and five-year implementation of the company’s first comprehensive strategic plan, managed cross-functional teams of up to 20 professionals and international consultants, and successfully launched a large-scale digital transformation program with investments exceeding $5 million. Under his leadership, major enterprise systems such as GIS, CRM, Field Management, and LMS platforms were implemented, and a Project Management Office was established introducing Agile, SCRUM, and Design Thinking methodologies.
Earlier in his career, Teymur worked at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, leading international cultural and EU-funded initiatives, and served as Marketing Manager at AzerPipe, where he contributed to significant revenue growth and market expansion. He also spent six years as Advisor to the Mayor of Sumgayit, promoting investment opportunities and implementing energy efficiency and waste management projects in cooperation with EU institutions.
Teymur holds an MBA with Distinction from Warwick Business School, where his dissertation focused on developing a digital transformation roadmap for utilities. He earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Caucasus University and his Bachelor’s degree in International Economic Relations from Azerbaijan State University of Economics, graduating with a top national entrance exam score. He has further completed executive programs at Harvard Executive Education, Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and The Wharton School. He is a Certified Professional Scrum Master (PSM I & II).
