Wanji joined WaterAid in 2017 as the Digital Acquisition Manager at WaterAid, an International Development Charity and will shortly moving into her new role leading the Supporter Experience and Influencing Team. In her time at WaterAid she has led on the delivery and strategic development of the digital marketing programme, expanding the digital offering to include brand marketing and widening the channel mix. Alongside this Wanji supports teams across the WaterAid federation in developing their campaigns and digital strategies providing upskilling in marketing techniques and has worked on key brand campaigns including the award winning ‘Girl Who Built a Rocket’.
Prior to this Wanji spent two years at Macmillan Cancer Support within the directing marketing dialogue team, working across DRTV, Print, Mobile and Face to Face. Whilst in this role she completed her Certificate In Fundraising from the Institute of Fundraising as well as volunteered with TedX Youth Croydon as Partnerships Manager. She began her career in the NGO sector in 2012 as part of the pilot International Citizens Service programme. In between her roles at Macmillan and WaterAid she spent a year in the Netherlands studying for her master’s degree in social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, including 3 months field work research in Nairobi, Kenya and a research internship within the university. Wanji also holds a bachelors degree from Durham University in Biological Anthropology. She has a keen interest cultures and societies, how they are formed and change as well observing human behaviour. She applies the theories and training from her academic experience in developing human centred communications and digital experiences.
Outside of marketing and anthropology, Wanji spends her time travelling to visit family and friends in various cities, attending gigs and festivals and is learning how to properly roller skate!
