101’s Phil Rumbol Announced as The Marketing Academy’s First Chairman

Phil Rumbol, founding partner of creative agency 101 has been appointed as Chairman of The Marketing Academy.  Effective immediately, Rumbol will take on the newly created role in order to help continue the development of the academy that was founded 5 years ago by CEO, Sherilyn Shackell who remains in post.

The Marketing Academy is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation that was founded in order to develop leadership capability in talented marketers from the marketing, media and advertising s industries.  It provides world class mentoring, coaching and experiential learning every year through its Scholarship, Apprenticeship and Fellowship programmes.  All programmes are provided free of charge and are funded through commercial partnerships with marketing driven companies and agencies in order to develop the ‘marketing talent of today into the leaders of tomorrow’.

Commenting on the appointment, Rumbol said; “I’m a passionate believer in both personal development and the contribution that marketing can make to an organisation and that’s why I’ve been involved in the Academy from the beginning. Under Sherilyn’s dynamic leadership, the Marketing Academy has come a long way in only 5 years. I’m therefore delighted to take on the role of Chairman working with Sherilyn to plot the next chapter in its development.”

Rumbol’s remit will be to work closely with Sherilyn to help develop the academy and building a sustainable model that will allow the funding of more participants to go through its unique programmes.  The academy has already begun international expansion with the Australian chapter being established in 2014.

Sherilyn Shackell said ‘2015 marks our 5th birthday year and during this time 245 marketers have completed our programmes & over 5000 people have attended our Lecture series. We’re deeply committed to increasing the Academy’s impact and I’m truly delighted that Phil has agreed to help us explore new opportunities in the UK and around the world’

The Academy will be celebrating its 5th Birthday in style with a huge industry party in December which will see them launch a £1mill fund to create apprenticeships in advertising, media and marketing.

Rumbol’s appointment signals a change in the governance structure of the academy and he will chair a formal advisory board comprising of independent directors from market leading brand organisations.
