Gareth Hussey, Director of Consumer, Telefonica O2

Gareth was formerly appointed CMO for Tesco Mobile in November 2018 and is responsible for business strategy, end-to-end marketing, customer experience and corporate affairs. Tesco Mobile is a joint venture between Tesco Plc and Telefonica UK and has grown to become Europe’s largest, mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) with over 5 million customers. It also has industry-leading levels of customer satisfaction, retention and advocacy. Gareth is working to revitalise and reposition the Tesco Mobile brand in the UK with a view to unlocking the next phase of growth for the business.

He has previously worked for blue chips in the automative, oil & gas, financial services and telco industries in a variety of commercial marketing roles. He has also worked in both domestic and global market contexts and thrives on transformation and change briefs. He drove data-driven personalisation at O2 Consumer from a standing-start to a multi-million £ return, launched the UK’s first consumer mobile payments proposition at Barclays and was integral to rebooting Castrol in the B2B space in 32 global markets during his time there.

At his core, he is always curious about and wanting to get ever closer to customers and is passionate about team development with a particular interest in self-limiting beliefs and the curation of an open and inclusive environment to unlock high performance.

Gareth holds a BSc in International Business from Warwick Business School, lives in London with his French partner, loves to travel and can often be found running or cycling when not in the office.
