Chris Clayton, Senior Marketing Manager – Nationwide Building Society

Chris has been working at Nationwide Building Society for the last 5 years. He originally joined the digital team and has since moved his skills across into the Marketing Team to support them in becoming more digitally minded. He now leads a 25-strong team developing the strategy and delivery of all Nationwide’s Member Marketing Communications to its 15m members across all its Digital platforms and has also added Email and Direct Mail to his responsibilities.

Chris started his career at a small travel start-up focussing on improving online customer experience and went on to lead the area. He then joined Lastminute.com as an Analyst and went on to lead the Web Analytics function for all Lastminute.com’s European brands and sites.

Whilst working at Lastminute.com (in order to not lose his digital skills) he built his own affiliate based sightseeing tour website that evolved into its own merchant site and at its prime sold over £1m of sightseeing tours a year. He went on to sell the website and relocated to Gloucestershire to be closer to family and to take the opportunity to support Nationwide with its ambitious plans to become a digital society.

Outside of his day job, Chris has spent the last 3 years supporting the Prices Trust as a Digital Mentor, helping ex-offenders and those leaving care, as well as unemployed and under-achieving youngsters by sharing his digital and marketing experience to help them build and grow their new or existing businesses. More recently Chris has become a fully qualified ECB Children’s Cricket Coach for 5 to 13-year olds – helping them understand the basics of cricket while having fun and building confidence.
