NABS Announce donation to Merlin’s Apprenticeship

The non-profit and voluntary organisation, The Marketing Academy, have announced NABS will support the Merlin’s Apprenticeship Scheme for 2012 with a donation

NABS (National Advertising Benevolent Society),the industry charity, working to  improve life for those working in the world of advertising and media via the provision of advice, support and career guidance, will sponsor Advertising and Communications agency-based apprentices throughout their 12 month journey in celebration of their 100th anniversary.

Zoe Osmond, CEO of NABS, said “Our centenary gives us the ideal opportunity to celebrate our achievements but more importantly, to focus on supporting future generations… the next 100 years and beyond. NABS is committed to on-the-job career development and to creating career opportunities, regardless of personal circumstances. The work that Sherilyn and her team are doing to ensure a more diverse pool of industry talent is close to NABS hearts and that of our supporters.“

As a way of ensuring Marketing brilliance for decades to come, Merlin’s Apprentice was created to give those without a typical Marketing or Advertising background a chance to start along their career path. The Programme consists of the undertaking of 12 months paid work experience, during which Apprentices gain awareness and understanding of the principles of ‘personal’ leadership, awareness of fundamental marketing concepts, knowledge of marketing principles and tools, and a high level of confidence and self-esteem.  Aimed at 18-24 year olds who aren’t currently in employment, education or training, the fully-funded Apprenticeship is awarded to those who would normally be overlooked for this kind of work experience, due to poor life choices, lack of education or challenging background.

Sherilyn Shackell, Founder of The Marketing Academy, commented: “We are thrilled to have NABS on board. We’re incredibly pleased to be working with an organisation that provides so much support to members of the Advertising and Communications community. We aim to replicate the care they give to those who need it.”

NABS will be joining News International as sponsor. Merlin’s Apprenticeship was co-designed by The Prince’s Trust, who were also the first host organisation, and continues to be so along with Livity. Apprentices gain access to The Marketing Academy and NABS resources, on-the-job training, and are given the tools and experience they need to successfully enter a career within Marketing and Advertising.
