Start your leadership journey now! by Rachel Compton, 2014 Scholar

There is no magic formula when it comes to developing yourself as an authentic leader, so thank god for The Marketing Academy who’ve provided me and 29 other talented marketers, with a world-class scholarship to help us on our leadership journey.

And what a journey! The Marketing Academy has provided me with 1:1 access to the most senior and gifted people in the industry. Whether its through mentoring, coaching, bootcamps or organisation-led events, I’ve had un-paralleled access to the industry’s top leaders.

The above has helped me on a journey of self-awareness, providing me with a greater sense of my values and purpose, as this is ultimately what sets me apart as a leader. This year has given me the time to think about what inspires me and why anyone would want to follow me as a leader.

My conclusion – Be myself, but with purpose!

It sounds so simple, but of course it’s not. It’s even a little scary opening yourself up and revealing more of your true self at work. However, given that leadership is all about relationships it makes sense that unless we bring our whole selves to work we’ll struggle to excite and inspire people to follow us.

What’s great about The Marketing Academy is that you have an instant network to share all this with, including a truly amazing bunch of peers who I respect enormously.

My leadership journey is far from over, but I invite and encourage you to apply for a Marketing Academy scholarship now so you can start yours.
