Catherine Tan, Global CMO, KFC

Born in the UK, Catherine started out her career aged 14 working in a local restaurant chain. After finishing her degree, Catherine commenced Corporate life on a Graduate Programme with PepsiCo (within their Frito-Lay division for the UK’s number 1 food brand, Walkers Snacks), and transferred with the company to Australia, where she lived for 18 years, met her Australian husband, and had two daughters.

In Australia, she joined Dairy Farmers to take up the challenge of transforming the business into a blue chip FMCG in roles spanning senior Commercial and Marketing positions, eventuating in her managing the corporate brand, Milk and Impulse Marketing teams, and heading up the Commercial Business Team in a GM position. During the seven years, the highlights were relaunching the Dairy Farmers corporate and product brands, winning key Private Label tenders and seeing the brand grow 50% to $600m and overtake Qantas as most trusted Australian brand.

After Dairy Farmers was bought out by Lion Foods, and a short maternity leave, Catherine joined Sony Pictures as their Marketing Director, quickly learning about super-fast moving consumer goods, and the world of entertainment and technology marketing. Following a merger between Sony Pictures and Universal Pictures, Catherine was promoted to Strategy Director with a seat on the Board, and helped merge the two businesses successfully to become the biggest Australian home entertainment distributor.

Following a second maternity leave which included taking on the position as Director of an Altitude-training fitness start up, Catherine joined Goodman Fielder in May 2014 as Marketing Director managing the billion dollar Baking portfolio with brands such as Helga’s in Australia and Vogels in New Zealand.

After turning down a GM role with Goodman Fielder, Catherine joined KFC South Pacific in August 2015 as their Marketing Director, moved to the CMO position in 2016, and more recently moved to Dallas, USA to be the Global Chief Marketing Officer. She has completed a Masters in Business Administration with first class honours, enjoys family time, keeping healthy, home renovations and the outdoor life, and tries to ensure that life is always Finger Lickin’ Good!
