Alastair Kidd

The over-arching purpose of my work is to promote a more conscious practice of leadership. My stance is that of a guide offering insight and inspiration, possibility, and a path on. I use sherpa to describe this role. I know I do my best work with those who want to go beyond the foothills of leadership. The foothills are thoroughly developed with an abundance of leadership models and insights that you can adopt and learn from. My best work is with those who want to move beyond those necessary foundations. As leaders we can be inspired to navigate a different, less familiar route to effective leadership, one where we become more conscious of the leadership we offer and show up in the world with a completely different stance. This is the capacity of leadership we need now because predictability is falling away and being tied to old norms and paradigms are hindering our ability to thrive.

I see this as a calling of our times, to become a leader that can scale and that can operate compassionately and creatively in a complex and interconnected world. It is a choice to commit to a path of learning and growth in service of something greater than ourselves. As with any worthwhile venture there is no shortcut to ‘doing the work’. Our way will be sustained by intentionality and practice, selfreflexivity, honest self-assessment and authentic dialogue, exploring systemically, journeying over time and with good cadence.

If you want to explore and grow in this way my offer is to be a witnessing companion on your journey. I will encourage you to discern the purpose and intention of your life and work, to explore a deeper understanding of events and circumstances, to see our world as one of possibility and connectedness. We will often be working with what I call the beauty of the end grain – the overlooked or unseen, the unknown, even the unspeakable or untouchable. Working with me has been described as both down to earth and magical, courageous and creative, practical, deep and soulful, developmentally focussed and edgy.

And my credentials for this? For over a quarter of a century I have worked in the pursuit of leadership. I am now a Fellow of the Association for Coaching – an Accredited Executive Coach and certified facilitator, with over 15 years’ experience. I trained extensively in psychological, behavioural, leadership and developmental approaches. I have coached leaders and teams from multiple sectors, large established organisations and smaller specialized firms, global enterprise leaders and entrepreneurs and innovators – with so many focused on becoming who they can be and paths of transformation. Previously I spent 25 years in technical, commercial and leadership roles, globally and in the UK, where I was recognised for the ability to build businesses and produce results and transformational change at strategic and operational levels. Outside of this I’ll often be reading, nurturing an interest in writing poetry, exploring with my dogs, or with my wife creating a garden in our dream home that we built beside a nature reserve.
